About Galilee Baptist Church...
The story of Galilee Baptist Church is one of a long, rich history. First Union Baptist Church, located in the 400 block of 3rd Street, SW, Washington, D.C., was organized on December 1, 1954 by nine sisters and brothers of the church. First Union Baptist Church relocated to a larger facility located at 200 11th Street, NE, Washington, DC in 1956. After the purchase of the new facility, the name was changed from “First Union Baptist Church,” to “Galilee Baptist Mission.” With so many souls coming to Christ, and space being limited, a new church site was purchased at 2252 Minnesota Avenue, SE, Washington, DC in 1977. With the support of the leadership and congregation, Galilee purchased the edifice at 2101 Shadyside Avenue, Suitland, Maryland in early 1990.
In 2009, we purchased 50 acres of land at 5800 Woodyard Road in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Our Vision is to continue to reach souls for Christ and minister to our members.
Our Future plans are to build on the land that God has blessed us with so that our ministry continues to expand. On our new land we will be able to build a facility that would allow us to be more effective in ministry. Our Food Pantry, Dorcas Clothing Ministry and Employment Services, to name a few, will have adequate space to expand whereby we will be better equipped to serve more people
Galilee serves the community through its 2 campuses located in Southeast Washington, DC (Galilee South) and Suitland, MD (Galilee Shadyside). 7:30 & 11am Sunday Services are held at the Galilee Shadyside site while 9am service is held at Galilee South.
